My friend and I stopped for a coffee here - I’m still thinking about the cheese and leak focaccia that I got, which was absolutely delicious. Such lovely staff and the cafe is small and cozy.

We've been regulars at Pause since they were in Stirchley and cannot praise their coffee and bakes enough. The coffee selection is always chosen with care and Rory is more than happy to explain exactly where it's sourced and the flavour profile etc which makes a trip to the cafe a more bespoke experience than a regular coffee shop. We also did the coffee workshop which was amazing and very reasonably priced. We learnt so much and were able to have the session tailored to what we wanted to learn about. Also - get the espresso cake

Gorgeous coffee, wonderful sweet treats, a small but perfectly formed savoury menu, and wonderful service. What more could you want? We adore the coffee from Pause and love stopping by for a relaxing moment out of a hectic day. You are always welcome in Pause and we welcome it to our vibrant KH independent scene.

I love Pause! It is tiny, and all of the amazing and varied bakes are made in house. Farah and Rory are both so kind and friendly. Although we have only been a few times, I already felt welcomed like a regular. When it's not too busy it's lovely to hear them share how they sourced a particular tea, the inspiration for a bake, or coffee/tea making tips. The prices are very reasonable for the insanely high standard of bakes and drinks!!

Disappointed this place hasn’t got a space in the city. Always awesome with super friendly service. Always changing their roasts with supercool tasting notes and the Hemingway is a little treat for those in the know. Constantly rotating list of sweet treats - 100% epic every time. Big love to these guys

I recently visited Cafe Pause in Birmingham and had a pleasant time. I ordered a latte, which was delicious and had that perfect taste you’d expect from a latte. For the cake, I unfortunately can’t recall the name, but it was exactly the type I enjoy—soft, not too sweet, and the cream was lovely with a subtle hint of herbs that added an interesting touch. The cafe itself is quite small, with space for about 8 people indoors and 6 outdoors. This makes it a bit less ideal for long conversations, especially if you're hoping for a cozy gathering. Additionally, it seems there’s a rule against using laptops indoor, so it's more of a place for a quick coffee break rather than a workspace. Overall, a nice spot for a quick treat, but not the best if you’re looking to linger for hours.

May 2022 Update - Finally, the team Rory and Fara have a permanent home in Kings Court. What to expect? A comfortable, chilled out space. Exciting homemade bakes courtesy of Fara (she was serving up a KitKat Chunky Brioche Bread Pudding when I visited). Some of the best coffee in Birmingham. The usual change up in local artisan roasted coffee beans (keeping the regulars happy). Extracted to perfection. Served in cool splendid looking China. Keep up the good work. Loving the black on pink Pause logo. April 2022 Update - It is now using the Verbena restaurant space in Shirley. Open 7 days a week, but only in the morning on Sundays. What you'll get is artisan coffee and a range of delicious homemade cakes. Verbena is an accommodating, bright environment to relax. Please check it out. I walked into Isherwood & Co and there in front of me lay a fresh faced double team ready to welcome me to, what I believe to be, Birmingham's best kept cafe secret. Welcome to Pause. Prepare to be wowed. You be welcomed wholeheartedly by smiley face of staff. Next you gaze will be diverted to the plastic cabinet that is nearly empty. I arrived at 11am. A whole hour after opening time. In that short period the 2 flavours of the cinabuffins had sold out! The staff member mentioned that have a selection of savouries too. The barista was clearly deeply knowledgeable about all things coffee. Pause's plan is to rotate the speciality roasts on a week by week basis. They are also going to experiment with cinnabuffin and coffee profiles to bring the perfect coffee, pastry combo. I love everything that Pause is. I love the logo, the food they offer, the artisan coffee they craft and the enthusiastic people beavering away to make it happen. Fast-forward a few months, years. Hopefully, they occupy bigger premises and move closer to the city. Better still, could you relocate to my home. I can think of nothing better than having a Pause each day.

Just outstanding! I cannot recommend Pause highly enough! It's a must visit if you're around Kings Heath and definitely worth the travel if you're not! Featuring ever changing specialty coffees and beyond delectable baked goods, Pause never dissapoints. Farah and Rory have built such a lush and welcoming space, their serious hard work is evident in the incredible quality of their produce and also in the warm atmosphere they have created in their shop. From the first visit I felt treated like a friend more than a customer and even on their busiest days (and many visits later) I still feel the same. Rory's passion for coffee is radiant. His commitment to quality and excellent taste means exciting new flavours carefully selected for the bar and an excellent cup of coffee everytime. I highly recommend asking what beans, roast and roastery they're working with at the moment! Rory has often presented me with a beautiful coffee and an account of it's source and tasting notes. One of my favourite orders this summer has been a spanish iced latte; sweet, smooth and refreshing. Farah's baking is exquisite. With a frequent rotation of some iconic Pause classics, seasonal inspired bakes and new flavour combinations there is no shortage of refined delciousness. More often than not I have arrived to the smell of freshly baked cookies or cinnabuffins and have not been able to resist getting one of each! Must try bakes are of course the cinnabuffins, chunky loaded cookies and the chocolate fudge cake (espresso frosted if you're lucky). Farah is wonderful, her skills and creativity are inspiring to be around and defintely come through in her presence and her cakes! All together Pause is an asset to Birmingham and a diamond of a coffee shop & bakery.
